Who is Drum Gatelodge for?
Who is Drum Gatelodge for?
Drum Gatelodge is for couples or solo travellers who want a quiet, cosy few days somewhere with real history, and to stay somewhere totally unique. With the bed upstairs in the turret, you really do feel like you're staying in a castle. The lodge sleeps two, with lots to explore nearby: the Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle on its clifftop, and the Old Bushmills Distillery, the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world. Things to note: You park right in front of the lodge, and the stairs up to the bedroom are steep but manageable. The estate around the lodge is private and the fields are working farmland, so there are only short strolls from the door. It’s a base for the coast rather than a place to walk from. You’re unlikely to meet anyone except the donkeys.

And, how do I get to the gate lodge?
Once booked, we will provide you with a what3words pin to find your lodge. For now you can know it’s just outside Bushmills, on a quiet country road on the Causeway Coast in Co. Antrim.
By car
Drum Gatelodge is 244 km from Dublin, about 3 hours by car, and about an hour (56 miles) from Belfast. You can park right in front of the lodge, with a short stone walkway to the front door.
By Public transport
Take the train from Belfast to Coleraine, then a 17-minute taxi to the lodge. We recommend checking timetables in advance depending on the day of the week and time, and pre-booking the taxi to avoid waiting times.

A note from your host
I’ve lived in Bushmills for a long time and have been looking after Drum Gatelodge since 2024. I take great pride in keeping the lodge clean and cosy, I’ve plenty of local recommendations, and I’m always up for a chat about the lodge’s history. When I’m not at Drum, you’ll usually find me baking with and for my daughters.
