How much does it cost to stay at Saoirse?

Saoirse costs from €210 per night midweek, with a two-night minimum stay. The rate depends on the day of the week, with Sunday to Thursday nights being the lowest and Friday and Saturday nights €100 more expensive. The exact price for your dates shows in the calendar before you pay. As Saoirse is designed for analogue living, we really recommend doing the full 72 hours (3 nights) to feel the full benefits of time phone-free in nature. We promise you won't regret it.

What's included in the price at Saoirse, and what costs extra?

The price covers the cabin for two adults, bed linen and towels, firewood for the stove and fire pit, coffee beans, tea, sugar and cooking oil, the full analogue kit (phone lockbox, film camera, cassette player, board games and books), use of the outdoor bath, and a three-hour session in the forest sauna. Optional extras are added at checkout: bringing your dog, the irish bath spa experience, an extra sauna session and a bottle of bubbles. No cleaning or booking fees are added on top. You pay 25% when you book and the rest 60 days before you arrive.

Where is Saoirse, and how far is it from Dublin?

Saoirse is in Co. Westmeath, on the Meath border between Athboy and Delvin, about 80km and one hour by car from Dublin. Without a car, the 111 bus from Busáras takes around 1 hour 45 minutes, followed by a ten-minute taxi. Parking is a 300m walk from the cabin, so we do recommend bring outdoor shoes for the walk to the cabin. We send the exact what3words location once you've booked.

Yes! Saoirse runs entirely on solar power and has a hot shower, a compost toilet, a gas hob, a small fridge, icebox and a wood-burning stove. There's no Wi-Fi (which is the whole point) It was the first Samsú cabin, designed by Rosanna and built with an Irish builder, and everything in it is there for two or three nights without a screen. Our motto for saoirse was "everything you need, and nothing you don't"

Do I have to lock my phone away at Saoirse? How does a digital detox work?

You don't have to lock your phone away, but we really do recommend it. When you arrive there's a lockbox for your phones, plus an old Nokia for emergencies, a film camera, maps and a cassette player, so you have everything you need. It's totally self-policed: if you take your phone out, nobody will know. Spending 2 or 3 nights offline is scientifically proven to boost your mood, reduce stress, and improve your creative thinking. Pair this with being in nature, and you'll feel like a new human!

Can I bring my dog to Saoirse?

Yes — even pups need to switch off. Add your dog at checkout for €40, which covers extra cleaning. We just ask that dogs are kept on a lead around the grounds so as not to disturb the wildlife.

Is Saoirse good for couples, and can I book it for a group? what about infants?

Saoirse is built for two: a king-size bed, huge picture windows onto the woodland and an outdoor bath in the trees. Guests have used it for anniversaries, honeymoons and a few proposals. You're more than welcome to bring a little one along if you're happy to get under the covers together. Please note that the cabin has not been 'child-proofed' and there are pointy edges and a hot log burner in the cabin.

Saoirse is the original Samsú digital-detox cabin — Off-grid, offline, and off the beaten track, it's nestled on the edge of a forest, where you'll wake to morning birdsong and huge picture windows framing the woodland outside. Saoirse has a fully equipped kitchen — two hobs, a mini fridge, and everything you need to cook your favourite meals, inside or out. Built for going analogue, you'll arrive to a phone lockbox, a film camera, an old Nokia for emergencies, board games, books, and a few other essentials for a few nights of slow living. Who is Saoirse for?

Only an hour from Dublin, Saoirse is for the burnt-out. Couples, friends, and solo travellers who want to properly switch off and spend real time in nature. If you love forest bathing, woodland walks, and need a digital detox, this is your cabin. Saoirse comes with the signature Samsú analogue kit, and no Wi-Fi, of course. As the original Samsú cabin, it was designed and built by Rosanna and her team in Ireland. If you've been meaning to go analogue for months and never quite manage it, this is the cabin that makes you. Things to note: there's a 300m walk to the cabin from the carpark, so pack outdoor shoes depending on the weather. Saoirse is on the same 350-acre land as our Cucu cabin, about a five-minute walk apart but far enough that you'll never see each other — so the two can be booked together for a group of four. Saoirse is located near a walking path on the estate so you will encounter some folk who are out walking every once and a while.

What’s there to do?

You're on the edge of Ireland's Ancient East. A short drive brings you to Newgrange and the Boyne Valley — a 5,000-year-old passage tomb, older than the pyramids — and to the Hill of Ward just outside Athboy, an Iron Age royal site and ancient home of the Samhain fires. But Saoirse's real pull is closer in: 350 acres of native woodland and meadow on your doorstep to wander whenever you'd rather not drive at all.

We would advise that if you’re coming to Saoirse and Samsú for a digital detox and the full analogue experience, it is best enjoyed by not leaving at all

Have a soak in the middle of a forest and experience the Japanese tradition of Shinrin-yoku for real.

Enjoy a three hour session in our forest sauna nestled on the edge of a lake, enjoy soaking up the nature views while you sweat.

Approximately 1:45 hr from Bus Aras Station on the 111 bus and including a 10 minute taxi at the end. We recommend checking timetables in advance depending on the day of the week and time and pre-booking the taxi in advance to avoid waiting times.

A note from your host

I'm Rosanna, a self-confessed workaholic and screen addict. After burning out, I discovered the power of time offline in nature. I build and design digital detox cabins in Irish nature to help the 'always on' switch off. I also founded Samsú! My dad and I burned all the cassettes you'll find in the cabin and handwrote each song title on the back. What makes this place unique is the analogue kit: a Polaroid camera, a lockbox for your phones, journals and an old Nokia for emergencies, as well as the nature all around.
